LO1, LO2 With this fun Game we are developing critical listening skills. A section of the song will play once with all instruments presents then a second time with one of the instruments missing. Can you tell which one has been stolen by our thief? 

Tip: 

1. Connect this to the Music Video:  Blues Music Video and see if the children can point out the missing instrument on screen. 

2. Ask the class if they understand the role of the instrument that is missing, look out for key words such as rhythm, pulse, keeping time (please mention that all instruments are equally responsible for timekeeping), providing short rhythmic sounds etc… 

3. Play the video again and ask the class to clap along to the part without the drums, see if they find this easier, harder or the same. 

BTW: Did you know that drums belong to a family called semi-pitched instruments? This means that we can hear different drums being higher or lower in sound to each other but they do not have a defined pitch or tuning such as tuned instruments.
